The Flatcoated Retriever Association of Victoria (FCRAV) was officially formed on 11th November 1976 after considerable effort by a combined working party consisting of Flat Coated Retriever and Curly Coated Retriever owners. 

Affiliation was achieved with the Kennel Control Council of Victoria, now known as the Victorian Canine Association in the same year.  
Several of the original 1976 Committee still serve.  
The Association was incorporated in July 1992.

The FCRAV is the only club representing the breed in Australia.  Our members are comprised of Conformation exhibitors, Obedience and Agility Trial Athletes, Retrieving Trial Competitors, Scent work and other competitions.
 
Many of our members do not compete but provide a staunch support group of individuals and families who own a cherished pet and family companion the Flat Coated Retriever.

Dogs Australia and Dogs Victoria maintain a national code of practice for hereditary diseases. This code requires all potential breeding Flat Coated Retrievers to be assessed for glaucoma, and for hip and elbow dysplasia.

The Flat Coated Retriever Association of Victoria (FCRAV) fully supports the current ANKC program.
